Tennent’s Lager Presents: Five Million Reasons

With less than a week to go until Steve Clarke’s squad take to the field in Scotland’s first match at a major men’s football finals in 23 years, Tennent’s has launched a new film to celebrate the nation’s five million reasons to care this summer.

From a freshly washed shirt out on the line, to the flags, facepaint and pints that make up the pre-match rituals of fans the length and breadth of Scotland, the film is a homage to the five million faces and places that will unite behind the team.

Scotland captain Andy Robertson and Serbia goal-hero Ryan Christie make cameo appearances alongside members of the tartan army, including some of the unforgettable scenes that followed David Marshall’s penalty save in Serbia last November.

The clip is set to the thumping soundtrack of ‘I Want To Believe (Made For This)’ by Baby Strange, which has been reworked with new lyrics to celebrate the summer of football. The track will be released as a charity single, as the tournament kicks off on 11 June, with 23% of proceeds – 1% for every year in waiting – donated to Glasgow Saints FC to help tackle food poverty and social isolation in Glasgow’s East End.

Cameron Matthews, Tennent’s Senior Brand Manager, said:

“Tennent’s has been by the side of Scotland supporters for over 50 years, and in that time we’ve had more than a few turns on the tartan rollercoaster of emotion. This summer, after a wait of 23 years, we’re finally back at a major men’s tournament and the nation has five million reasons to celebrate a summer of football.

“As fans we’re made to be part of the big occasion, and the team is made to take part at the highest level, so no matter what the next few weeks have in store for us, we’re ready to make the most of the occasion.”

Johnny Madden of Baby Strange said:

“We’re so excited to have been asked to be a part of Tennent’s ‘Made For This’ campaign. We have all been lifelong followers of Scottish football, so to be able to play a part in supporting our country and our national team through the summer is huge for us.

“’I Want To Believe’ has taken on a whole new meaning and a brand new energy – it’s all about passion, belief and pure desire to see Scotland winning. After a 23-year wait, the song reflects the same grit and determination the team has shown in reaching this point. Scotland’s made for this.”
